Simple way to Meditate

The Scriptures have given common man the idea of meditation which can make you oneself with God. For common people the word seemed to signify a kind of special method to practice so that one could feel the presence of God and the perfection of the method would lead one to visualize God.

Now the word has become a household term leading every one to believe that it can be practiced by everyone to relive oneself from stress, physical ailment and attain peace of mind. The method has become more of physical exercise than a quest for spirituality.

In ancient times the Munis, Rishies, or Saints meditated whole heartedly as they were away from the distraction of the materialistic world. The peaceful surroundings of the forest or the mountain caves helped them to concentrate. By developing concentration they could feel and experience the presence of the divine. It is quite difficult to say that all of them perceived god. By the time they reached the level of visualizing God they had themselves reached the stage of controlling all mental faculties.

In modern times such saints are very rare. They might have the experienced the presence of divinity but Ramakrishna’s vision of god is a rare experience. It cannot be attained only by meditation.

Is their no way for common people to meditate and control the mind? Concentration is the key word to it. It is easily said than done. It is by practice that one can develop a deep concentration. Concentration develops mental power and mental power must be made as strong as the physique. Actually god is the unconscious soul which always lies dormant within us. Meditation makes that dormant self more prominent and an individual is transported to a higher level than his counterpart. In this state all the activities of an individual is sincerely performed. Sincerity of purpose gives rise to devotion and devotion to determination. Unknowingly an individual has developed a strong mind and this state leads you to mental peace. All your work either small or big will be performed perfectly and it gives satisfaction.

The exercise is to concentrate on something that you are doing. The hectic schedule will be completed within time. You can retire to your bed with mental satisfaction. Just at the end of the day thank that Super power who has helped you to be strong, focused and sincere.
God Bless You All.

CIGARETTES

The health effects of tobacco smoking refers to direct tobacco smoking as well as the inhalation of environmental or secondhand tobacco smoke. The WHO in the 2002 World Health Repor estimates that in developed countries, 26% of male deaths and 9% of female deaths can be attributed to smoking. Similarly, the United States’ Centers for Disease Control and Prevention describes tobacco use as “the single most important preventable risk to human health in developed countries and an important cause of premature death worldwide”. In 2003, United States Surgeon General Richard H. Carmona stated that he would support the abolition of all tobacco products.

It is generally accepted among the general public that smoking can have devastating effects on the cardiovascular system and other important organs in the body, though the effects on the oral cavity are generally underestimated. Perhaps the most serious oral condition that can arise from tobacco smoking is that of oral cancer. However, smoking also increases the risk for various other oral diseases, some of which are almost completely exclusive to smokers.

Smoking has been proven to be an important factor in the staining of teeth. Halitosis is common among tobacco smokers. Other oral diseases that are known to have strong links to smoking are leukoplakia, Snuff Dipper’s lesions and smoker’s palate. Currently, there is growing evidence that tobacco greatly increases the risk of periodontal diseases, which includes bone and tooth loss. In addition, many smokers report a loss of taste sensation and/or salivary changes.

Tips to Reduce Weight at Home

During the past decade it has risen significantly in the whole world. Actually it has become one of the major health problems. Obese or overweight people are more prone to serious diseases like Stroke, Coronary heart disease, Diabetes, High cholesterol level, Arthritis, Gallbladder disease, Respiratory problems, Hypertension, Cancer etc. They can’t enjoy food, games, travelling or sex as much as physically fit or slim persons.

The problem of obesity has given rise to quick-fix slimming centres everywhere. Most of these centres lure the people by offering miracle solutions with medicines, super fat-free diet, and new exercise gadgets. Majority of their methods prove unscientific and dangerous. Their side effects can actually ruin your health. Moreover, after a short period you will again start gaining weight.

The physical exercise which can be done at home is the best method to reduce weight, and you can learn it easily. But never jump upon any exercise schedule with full force. Take it easy. Start with only a ten minutes schedule everyday (home exercise schedule) and then increase the time of the activities gradually. You should also incorporate some outdoor activities in your exercise schedule.

1. Running at Slow Pace
Running is a good exercise for weight-reduction. You can go to a nearby park and enjoy running. You can burn more than 100 calories just in fifteen minutes. And dear friend, it is real fun to run in a park full of trees and flower plants.

2. Jumping at a Place
If you don’t want to go out you can get almost the same benefit at your home by jumping at a place. You can do it in any small corner of your house. It is almost same like running. But be sure that there is proper ventilation. Keep flower pots at your home to get more oxygen..

3. Lie Down and Cycle
It is the best exercise for your stomach and thighs. You can do this exercise by lying on bed and moving your legs like you are cycling.

4. Moving Arms Up and Down
Stand at a place. Move your arms to upward direction simultaneously moving your body up with the help of feet fingers. Then bring your arms down along with your body.

5. Body Movement to Different Directions
You can do this exercise by moving any part of your body specially arms and legs to different directions. Never make any strenuous movements. Such simple movements give exercise to almost all the parts of your body.

6. Do Household Work
Doing household work will prove one of the best weight control methods. You not only get a good exercise but also get a satisfaction of completing those works which needed your attention.

7. Use Stairs
For going up, try to use stairs instead of escalators or elevators. Stairs may take more time but the exercise your body gets will be immensely beneficial.

8. Walk to Your Working Place
Try to walk to your working place. If it is very far, try to park your vehicle somewhat away from your working place so that you may get opportunity to walk. Walk as much as possible. It is the easiest way to burn extra calories and get stamina. Brisk walking burns around 180 calories in half an hour.

9. Enjoy the Fun of Cycling
Instead of two-wheelers we need to popularize cycling again for shopping or covering short distances. It is a wonderful cardio activity. It burns between 100 to 200 calories just in fifteen minutes. If you hesitate to go out on cycle keep a cycling machine at home. It is equally beneficial. But you will surely miss fun of outdoor.

10. Start Lifting Weights
Young men love to lift weights and they mostly do it to build muscles. Just after six months training they find that they are looking more handsome and healthy. But aged and physically weak persons must consult a physician before opting for hard exercise schedule. And most of the ladies don’t like any muscle building exercise.

11. Diet Control
A simple diet control can help you a lot to reduce weight. But don’t puncture the fun of life by stressing too much on it. Reduce the intake of fat and fried food. Increase the quantity of vegetables, salad and fruit.

If you follow these eleven steps you will definitely be free from the curse of obesity in a few months. Freedom from diseases, more fun and longer life-span is in your own hands, and it is free.

Spinal disc transplant ’success’

Spinal disc transplant ‘success’

Doctors in China have carried out the world’s first spinal disc transplants on five patients, a study says.

The discs were placed in the necks of four men and a woman by a University of Hong Kong-led team.

They were taken, with the consent of relatives, from the spines of three young female donors who had died suddenly as a result of trauma.

Five years on, the patients are doing well, with improved mobility and no immune problems, says the Lancet.

The surgeons said refinements of the procedure may provide an alternative to standard therapies.

But they said it would be hard to replicate the technique for spinal discs in the more complex area of the lower back – the most common source of problems.

Removing damaged discs and fusing adjacent vertebrae together is regarded as the “gold standard” treatment.

However, it results in limited movement and may accelerate degeneration elsewhere.

Artificial discs have shown success, but may produce serious complications in the neck region.

Vertebral discs are the spine’s shock absorbers. The flat capsules, about an inch in diameter and a quarter-of-an-inch thick, fit tightly between the bones of the spinal column.

Under stress, a disc’s inner material may swell, pushing through the tough outer membrane onto surrounding nerves and causing pain, which can be excruciating.

In severe cases, a ruptured or torn membrane may result in irreversible damage.

Problems
Disc problems can result from violent injury, or the strain caused by everyday activities and accidents, such as lifting heavy objects the wrong way or slipping on ice. Normal ageing can also lead to disc degeneration.

Transplantation has never been successfully carried out on humans until now.

The discs were removed from the donors within two hours of death and frozen in preservative chemicals before being transferred to the patients.

Professor Keith Luk, who led the team, said: “With further improvements in the areas of graft preservation and surgical techniques, disc transplantation could be indicated in degenerative disc disease.

“But he said to extend the technique to the lower spine, which is more complex, would be a “challenge”.

In an accompanying comment article, doctors Wafa Skalli and Jean Dubousset, from the ENSAM-CNRS research institute in Paris, said the transplants could open a “new dimension” in the treatment of degenerative disc disease.

They added: “Disc transplantation could be an attractive alternative both for fusion and artificial disc replacement… This new approach could be of particular interest for younger patients for whom prevention of adjacent-level degeneration is important.”

MEDICOS AND MEDICAL TREATMENT

Life on this earth has become a trial and so it is to be able to live healthy. Medical science has improved to a great deal but we have to compare our modern day doctors with the quality of mind that Indian doctors or (Vaidy ) strove to cultivate in the days gone by and rue the difference. It seems the Medical oath which doctors have to take at the time of graduating out which is popularly known as Hippocratic oath (taken to promise oneself to render selfless service) has become shortened and is likely to get further shortened now, to merit itself the new name that I would give it-hypocritical oath.

Some two years ago, my mom’s problem due to osteoporosis got so intense that she had to be x-rayed and checked up. The doctor made a few queries and found out that she was the wife of a retired central Government employee with medical reimbursement for operations. I suspect that was the reason why he suggested that she be admitted as an in-patient. As a dutiful daughter, I took two weeks leave to attend to her (and at that time I was working in a hamlet two hundred kilometers away from my place in Chennai).

She only had a pain at the neck, and for that they took blood test, urine test, CT scan, ultrasound scan(The one they do to check the baby in the tummy). Poor mom, doesn’t even possess a uterus which was removed two years prior to that. And there was mummy gloriously taking thaaat!

Everything , of course was normal, normal, normal and I was beginning to get really vexed because two days had passed and we weren’t getting any near solution. After the x-ray came a duty doctor went through it and said she needed an operation which had 25 percent chances of success. And if it was a failure, she would of course not lose her life but might be rendered invalidated. Since I was already annoyed with the way they were conducting themselves I decided to pack the bags and leave the hospital. My mother was in two minds regarding that matter. What, if the doctor is right. I think we rather follow the doctor’s advice!-she appealed to me, being a woman of the great old good days where people thought doctors were Gods. No, I said. Look at the way the doctors talk!

You know, when I enquired why they had to take ultrasound scan for a lady who had no problem there, the answer was this- Why are you so panicky, are you paying from your pocket? No, after all it is Government that pays!Just relax and tell me if you have any discomfort here. I decided they had no right to make business out of my poor mom’s ailing body and literally dragged her out of the murky hospital. The doctor’s kept protesting that when she had no problem with the comforts of the hospital, why did she needed to vacate so early. I said, well doctor, I have an urgent call at my place of work and needed to go. So there is nobody else to tend to her and of course we would be back shortly to enjoy all that hospitality!!!!

And come out we did and immediately took second opinion with certain other doctors known for neutral judgement and you will not believe it when I say that they simply ruled out an operation! They said it was wisdom to avoid an operation which any way had only 25% chances of a success and god would most probably be more generous if we left it to him. Two years have passed and my mother is still an active woman except for occasional neck aches.

So those who rush to hospitals for everything please bear in mind that you might better take a second counsel before wholly depending on certified doctors who are out to get you. Better still appeal to God’s generosity!!

short-term effects of alcohol

When a person drinks alcohol, the alcohol is
1.absorbed by the stomach,
2.enters the bloodstream,
3.and goes to all the tissues.

The effects of alcohol are dependent on a variety of factors, including a person’s size, weight, age, and sex, as well as the amount of food and alcohol consumed.

The disinhibiting effect of alcohol is one of the main reasons it is used in so many social situations.

Other effects of moderate alcohol intake include dizziness and talkativeness;

the immediate effects of a larger amount of alcohol include slurred speech, disturbed sleep, nausea, and vomiting.

Alcohol, even at low doses, significantly impairs the judgment and coordination required to drive a car safely.

Low to moderate doses of alcohol can also increase the incidence of a variety of aggressive acts, including domestic violence and child abuse. Hangovers are another possible effect after large amounts of alcohol are consumed; a hangover consists of headache, nausea, thirst, dizziness, and fatigue.

How to sleep better?

Listening to music before going to bed can help you get a good sound sleep, according to a recent study.

The research was carried on mant elderly persons carrying sleep problems.During the study, they were given a choice to hear to music .The persons who went to bed after listening to music have reported better sleep at night and less disfunction during day time. Finally this turned out to be a technique that was easy to learn and lacked the side-effects of other treatments.

Listening to music caused physical changes that aided restful sleep, including a lower heart and respiratory rate, the researchers found.

Alternative:Making sure older people sleep less in the afternoon and get plenty of exposure to daylight can help them get a better night’s sleep…but anyway listening to music is not a hectic job!.
